That is the boundary, and the price of immortality." I have always taken this to mean that the grail only works inside the temple and to be immortal you have to stay to drink from it regularly. I'm going to assume that George/Steven feel this way since Sr. is dead in the new movie. I always thought that at some point the Knight mentions that the only way to get eternal life is to stay in the hermity old-room that he's in. Once one crosses that line in the opening part of the "cave" he talks about the effects no longer work, or something to that effect. Interesting. My roommate (and fellow Indy lover/obsesser) concurs with that so we don't see an inaccuracy at all.
