An INDIANA JONES Inaccuracy?

This weekend, theTVaddict did something that some may find surprising. He turned off his TV, stepped out of his TV cave and ~~decided to get some much needed fresh air~~ saw a movie.

Yet after thoroughly enjoying INDIANA JONES AND THE CRYSTAL SKULL, I’ve had three sleepless nights pondering one INDIANA inaccuracy. How on earth can Henry Jones [Sean Connery] be dead? When we last saw him — in the now inaccurately titled INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE — did Indy Jr. not save his life from a life-threatening gunshot wound by giving him a drink from the Cup of Christ. The very cup that was said to grant eternal life?

It has ALWAYS been my understanding that one has to continue to drink from the cup in order to have eternal life. My roommate (and fellow Indy lover/obsesser) concurs with that so we don’t see an inaccuracy at all.

Interesting. I always thought that at some point the Knight mentions that the only way to get eternal life is to stay in the hermity old-room that he’s in. Once one crosses that line in the opening part of the “cave” he talks about the effects no longer work, or something to that effect.

So, I just watched it again (for research!) and besides one of my favorite lines in movie history - “He chose…poorly” - the knight says, “The grail cannot pass beyond the great seal. That is the boundary, and the price of immortality.”

I have always taken this to mean that the grail only works inside the temple and to be immortal you have to stay to drink from it regularly. I’m going to assume that George/Steven feel this way since Sr. is dead in the new movie. It makes me happier to think that than thinking they just completely overlooked an important plot detail. :o)
