THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON Trailer

June 23rd, 2008

Those of you who saw INDIANA JONES a while back were probably treated to an intriguing, sumptuous, and tantalizing trailer for David Fincher and Brad Pitt’s upcoming film, THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON. The internet pretty much exploded that week, with many bloggers and comments proclaiming it one of the best trailers ever made. Some – like Alex Billington from First Showing – even think that the quality of the trailer can only mean the film itself is going to be nothing short of a masterpiece. Maybe that may seem like an outlandish suggestion, but then again we are talking about David Fincher, Brad Pitt, screenwriter Eric Roth, and a solid source of inspiration in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s short story. Not just that, but in my opinion this trailer functions perfectly well as a (really) short film in its own right.

Anyway, Till now there was no English language trailer, which is why I held off on posting anything on the film. Granted, there’s barely any dialogue in it (and who needs it with that entrancing music), so it didn’t really matter that much, but still. So for those of you who haven’t seen this yet, what are your thoughts? Is the hype over the trailer a lot of hullabaloo? Do you, like me, desperately want to see the film, preferably now?

REEL News: Brad Pitt searches for LOST CITY

April 3rd, 2008

Brad Pitt’s production company, Plan B, has made a deal with Paramount to produce the upcoming non-fiction book by David Grann, entitled “Lost City of Z.” The book “concerns British explorer Col. Percy Harrison Fawcett, who was attempting to find the so-called City of Z when he and his party disappeared in 1925. Over the next 70 years, scores of explorers tried and failed to retrace Fawcett’s path, including a 1996 expedition of Brazilian adventurers. Pitt would play Fawcett.” Though right now I’m horrified by anything associated with ruins in a South American jungle (I’m currently working my way through Scott Smith’s “The Ruins”), I think this has the great potential to be a fantastic action-adventure, made all the more fun (and mysterious) by the fact that it’s based on fact. Also, I’ve always believed that Brad Pitt would be perfectly suited for this kind of an Indiana Jones/Rick O’Connell , so I really do hope he takes the opportunity to star in this film.
