Alexander B. Huls (theREELaddict) isn’t sure of the exact moment when his interest in film broadened beyond Disney movies, but sometime in his teens a compulsive love affair began, sending him to the video store and multiplexes multiple times a week. His tastes evolved from craving solely blockbuster extravaganzas to needing more challenging material, whether that meant classic cinema from the Golden Age, cinematic milestones from the 70s and onward, international films, or just contemporary independent cinema. He now enjoys all films and all genres (except for certain sub-genres of horror, and films about dancing or inspirational teachers, or worse: both).
Like any film buff, he’s hit bottom a few times. Whether it was going to the theatre to see THE BRADY BUNCH MOVIE three times, or watching SPICE WORLD all alone in a theatre occupied by only himself. He likes to think going on to earn a Masters Degree in Film corrects such missteps, especially when the title of his thesis was something as ostentatious as: “Who Am I, and Where Do I Belong: Generation X Anxieties in the Films of M. Night Shyamalan.”
As for his favorite films, RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK, INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE, and NOTTING HILL mark the Top Three, while the rest of the list (in no order) include: HIGH FIDELITY, SAY ANYTHING, BEFORE SUNRISE/BEFORE SUNSET, YOU CAN COUNT ON ME, DIE HARD, UNBREAKABLE, THE TREASURE OF THE SIERRA MADRE, THE STATION AGENT, BRIEF ENCOUNTER, LONE STAR, WONDER BOYS, SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN, CHILDREN OF PARADISE, BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES, and ROMAN HOLIDAY (to name a few).
