Does anyone actually want more SPIDER-MAN films?

Not that we have much choice. In the recent months we’ve not only heard that James Vanderbilt (ZODIAC, THE RUNDOWN) is working on two scripts so that SPIDER-MAN 4 and 5 could be shot together, but that SPIDER-MAN 4 (according to producer Laura Ziskin) has an official release date of May 2011. All that’s left to do now, really, is figure out the casting.

Yet regardless of Sony’s greedy ambitions (remember when we were promised we’d only get a trilogy and that would be that?), I would like to know if anyone out there genuinely WANTS more SPIDER-MAN movies. Yes, I imagine on some level everyone – including myself – would love more adventures from one of the best superheroes ever, and a franchise that has given us one of the best comic book movies to date(SPIDER-MAN 2). Then again, on some level a lot of INDIANA JONES fans probably wouldn’t have minded another adventure, and that didn’t quite turn out so well either.

The thing is SPIDER-MAN 3 left a really bad taste in my mouth, and a severe bout of heartbreak. I remember turning to my friend after and sighing “Yeah, I think this franchise might be done.” Then again, who knows? Maybe the substantial time between now and 2011 could give the filmmakers a chance to “fix” the franchise, and things might turn out okay. Maybe we can hope the fourth will be good, and it in turn will possibly creatively reboot the franchise enough that we would want more films after that. The thing is, I can’t off the top of my head think of one single example where the fourth film in a franchise was not only great, but even necessary, merited, or wanted.

But it’s SPIDER-MAN, so there’s always hope he may pull through for us. Right?

What do you guys think? Do you enthusiastically embrace the idea of more Spidey movies? Are you hesitantly wanting one, hoping for the best? Or do you just think the franchise was run into the ground by SPIDER-MAN 3 and should be left dead?

As long as there’s no Tobey Maguire dancing in it!

Also, are all the original actors on board to do another one? I thought i heard TM saying during press for SM3 that he’s done. And, will Sam Raimi direct a 4th?

After Spiderman 3 left a horrible after taste in my mouth, I wouldn’t mind not seeing another Spiderman movie ever again.

I say, bring on Iron Man 2.

Oddly, I feel I have heard the question “will Sam Raimi direct a 4th?” before. That’s a good one. My money is on “no”.

This year, there was an April Fools rumor that Nicholas Brendon (Xander on Buffy) was going to be the new Spiderman. Horrible or amazing? Who cares? That’s a Spiderman movie I’d pay to see!

Unfortunately, Nicholas Brendon is currently tied up making a horror movie with Michael Madson and Rowdy Roddy Pipper… Now that, I know will be amazing!

Spider-man movies should come out annually.

Was the third movie perfect? No. Did it have a few silly elements? Yes. But you’re forgetting all the things they did get right Spider-man 3 like Harry Osborn. Seriously, I could watch the scene where Harry tells Peter he’s dating MJ about a thousand times.

You remember the part, where the waitress comes up to him after and asks, “Hows the pie?”

“So good.”

Um, yeah. Amazing!

Yes Please,as long as they recast the whole thing and get a new director.
NO MORE Kirsten Dunst ,shes no MJ…

It seems the cast is the biggest issue right now with the film. I’m kind of on board with no more Kirsten Dunst. I would also really like Gwen Stacy to get another shot at being an actually substantial character plot-wise as she was in the comics. I really liked Bryce Dallas Howard in the role. As for the rest, well, I’d be happy to have Tobey back. Especially since the closest candidates (i.e. Jake Gyllenhaal and Topher Grace) are no longer options.

As for the director, Sam Raimi is apparently looking forward to reading the script, and will make his decision based on that I’ve heard. Though, to be honest, I think the series could maybe benefit from a directorial change, and I’d also actually like to see Raimi do some other stuff now instead of making SPIDER-MAN movies for the rest of his life.
