REEL News: The Return of Ridley Scott

June 5th, 2008

After a 26 year absence from the genre he has blessed with two undeniable classic (BLADE RUNNER, ALIEN), the maniacally busy director is finally returning to science fiction, according to a recent interview with Eclipse Magazine. The coy British gentleman would not reveal what this science fiction project might be about, beyond saying indicating it’ll be based on a book he’s been trying to get for twenty years. He did at least suggest that the script might very well be done within the next month, and that this film will be his next project after the currently shooting NOTTINGHAM with Russell Crowe.

This is only the bajillionth addition to the man’s already busy schedule, convincing me further about a theory I originally voiced here, “someone has implanted a bomb in his head and made a SPEED like threat that if he isn’t working on at least three projects at the same time at all times, the bomb will explode.”

All of this begs the most important question of all: despite the long exile, does Ridley Scott have another science fiction classic in him?
