REEL Round-UP: Trailer Edition

June 3rd, 2008

BURN AFTER READING Red Band Trailer (NSFW)

However fine a dramatic actor Brad Pitt can be, I’ve always enjoyed him most when he’s being manic, flippant, and fun. He looks absolutely hilarious in this, whether working out on a treadmill, or even taking a punch (check out his expression when it happens!) I’m really looking forward to this despite the fact that generally I prefer the Coens when they’re being serious. Yet even I have to concede this looks like it could be one of their best – and funniest – films yet, and actually a pretty perfect and light follow-up to the overwhelmingly bleak NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN. Besides with directors like that directing that kind of cast? Forget about it.

ZACK AND MIRI MAKE A PORNO

By Kevin Smith’s own design, this teaser trailer is meant to literally tease. So you won’t find any actual footage here that will be in the film, let alone a hint of the plot. But then again, it’s pretty much in the title now isn’t it? Anyway, I don’t find this teaser really that funny. In fact the spiel gets old fast. So maybe it’s a good thing this isn’t actually in the film.

HE’S JUST NOT THAT INTO YOU

What a cast this film has. I mean, Scarlett Johansson, Justin Long, Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Connelly, Kevin Connolly, and Ben Affleck? Of course the only person I have eyes for in this one is Bradley Cooper, an actor I’ve been waiting to get his due since the days of “Alias.” As for the film itself, aside from a Johansson skinny-dipping scene, this doesn’t look like anything new or exciting.

THE GO-GETTER

Like THE WACKNESS, and THE PROMOTION, this seems to be one of those indie films the most prominent film bloggers (First Showing, Cinematical, /Film) are heralding to the high heavens. You know what? That’s more than good enough for me. Besides it’s not hard to see why. It has a slew of solid and proven indie actors like Lou Taylor Pucci, Jena Malone, Maura Tierney, and Judy Greer. And of course it also stars one of my biggest Hollywood crushes, Zooey Deschanel who reminds me why I have a crush on her in the first place with her sultry sweet voice, and her overall cuteness. I’m also just a big fan of the whole young-guy goes on an existential journey to find himself. Probably because I’m 25 and probably due for one of those myself soon.
