Christian Bale has earned the title since Batman Begins and he continues to dominate with the Dark Knight, Terminator Salvation and Robin hood coming after that.

Johnny Depp is in the league of Will Smith these days, and he only ascended to that level in the early 2000.
Leonardo DiCaprio will he doesn't take such big blockbusters is in the 20 million dollar category. And Christian Bale with the success of the Dark Knight, and the other movies he has coming out will be there soon I think. There are others to a slightly lesser degree. Also many of the big stars of yesterday are getting older now, I think in the next 5 years or so you'll see the next generation on mega stars emerge. 3-D technology is apparently poised to bring more people back to the theatre, which creates a climate for mega stars.
Another factor I think is that directors and writers are getting growing amounts of credit these days.

I agree Seth. Movie stars make the movie moreso than the scripts but I have to say I like movie stars who choose the scripts that will enhance their talents and performance. I love Will Smith but I think he can do a Hancock or Men in Black in his sleep. I loved Ali, I am Legend and Pursuit of Happyness not because he was in it but because I got to see him grow as an actor in those movies.

George Clooney - The problem is when you do, do a big budget spectacular it should make money for the studio, Batman and Robin, (not so much) if you fail then the Studios won't offer you the big budget roles.
Also, don't count the "Ocean XX" series in Clooney's column alone he had lots of help, the only really good singular Box Office performance he has had was "A Perfect Storm"
Brad Pitt - I like him but he isn't Blockbuster guy.

You should consider it this way; if you placed another actor in one of Will Smith's movies would they get they Box Office that Will Smith gets.

You don't place Will Smith in a good movie, you place Will Smith to make it a good movie, that's the definition of a "movie star".
